Central Vietnam – Lowlands and Highlands: Dalat, Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang The weather is fairly similar across both, although the highlands tend to be slightly cooler with higher rainfall as the majority of rain normally falls on the mountains before arriving at the low coastal areas.

Lowlands Summer – the weather is warm and reasonably dry from May to September. The monsoon winds then change bringing above average rain during late September. This time is not ideal as rain can be fairly constant – flooding and, in extreme cases, typhoons are also a possibility.

Highlands Winter temperatures can fall slightly below the average and rainy is higher than at lower elevations. However, most rain tends to fall during the summer months when it can be very wet – although these summer months do provide a respite from the often intense heat of other areas. The exception is on the Central Highland (Kontum down to Lam Dong) where it's cool year-round (temp. From 55 to 65 deg. F (13 to 18 deg C), with moderate rainfall.

In the Far South (Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and the Mekong Delta or Nam Bo), it's pretty much warm year-round but the Dec. -Jan, low can be down to around 60 deg.F (15 deg C). The high temp., However, rarely gets above 90 deg. F (35 deg C). The dry season begins in Nov. and reflecting through April. The rainy season is from May through October.

Hot, humid and rainy but heavy downpours are usually short lived.

Remains hot and humid, although humidity levels are more bearable between December and February. During April and May the southwest monsoon winds bring rain showers to the Mekong Delta and southern Vietnam.

Ho Chi Minh City in south Vietnam lies on the Saigon River north of the Mekong River delta. The journey continues, hugging the shore of Simon’s bay, with even better opportunities for whale watching, as the bay abounds with these magnificent creatures between June and October each year. Simonstown is home to the South African Navy and it is not unusual to see one or more of the warships or submarines manoeuvring in the bay. At the journey’s end in Simonstown one will find another historic station building, and there is plenty to see and do in this popular naval town. A walk to the centre of the town will take you through the interesting historic mile and an eclectic selection of historic buildings. Be sure to take a cab to visit the famous African penguin colony at Boulders Beach, which was recently rated by a UK magazine as the best family beach in the world.

Whilst one can purchase train tickets at Muizenberg station, Cape Town’s Metrorail Southern Line Tourism Route offers a hop-on hop-off ticket from Cape Town through the suburbs of Observatory, Newlands, Muizenberg, Kalk Bay and Fish Hoek Stations for just ZAR30 per one day ticket or ZAR 50 for a 2-day ticket- (US$ 4-6 respectively). If you purchase the hop-on-hop off rail ticket you will also receive a map showing all the attractions of each of the suburbs within a 2 km walking distance.

  • Page titles should include keywords and be reasonable in length. Avoid comma separated lists of keywords. Page titles are displayed in the top bar of the browser window and are displayed by many search engines in the results.
  • Keyword meta tags should be short. Focus on the specifics of the page and avoid including words that are not included in the content of the page. Avoid using the same word more than three times in the list. Commas are not necessary between words. Order words so that multiple keyword patterns are obvious.
  • The description meta tag requires special attention as it is displayed in many search engine results. Keep the description to less than 225 characters and avoid comma separated lists of keywords. The description should be descriptive and convey the value of the content on the page.
  • Downloadable files including Excel Sheets, Word Documents, and PDF’s are indexed by most search engines. For each document listed on your site, add a title, keywords, and description to help the search engine index the file more accurately. In most programs, click on File > Properties.

  • Use a link-checker to verify that links are valid. Sites with numerous broken links may not be indexed completely by search engines.
  • Include a link to a site map on all pages of your site. The site map should include a link to each page on the site. Links should be descriptive using keywords or phrases.

  • Add off-site links if they will be useful to your visitors. Avoid building sites with links to low-quality or free link exchange farms. Links should build value for your client.
  • Request link exchanges with business partners, clients, or trade organizations. Request how sites should link to you. Use descriptive links that convey the value of your site, service, or product.
  • Avoid pages with too many links. Search engines only follow so many links per page. Place high priority links higher on the page.

Make Certain Your Site is Accessible

  • Use tables conservatively. Although content may be logically ordered in the browser, look at the code as the search engine would. It should still make sense.
  • Include alternatives for flash movies and noscript content for javascript. Not all viewers allow flash and javascript and such code can hide content or links from search engines.
  • Search engines cannot see images. Let them know what the image is about by including ALT tags with short descriptive phrases for each image. Avoid using long lists of key words.
  • Use HTML validation tools and remove buggy code and eliminate validation errors. For free tools, goto http://validator.w3.org/.
  • Do not use splash pages. Homepages should be content rich and link friendly. Homepages that consist of a single image with the world enter, flash movies, or that provide little content can reduce visibility. Your homepage should inform visitors (and search engines) of the value of your site.
  • Keep load times to a minimum. Make certain that code and media are optimized. Remove and reuse repeating code using Server Side Includes.

Direct flights to your destination will reduce the take-offs and landings which contribute the worst emissions. Night and winter flights should be avoided if possible. Choose a "young" airline. New aircraft pollute less. Sometimes visit local holiday destinations with travel by car (car sharing), public transport or even walking or cycling.

Extremists would suggest banning all holiday flights. This would have a totally negative effect on the economies of many countries visited by tourists. The money earned from responsible tourists will fund education programs, support conservation projects and enable investment in carbon reduction technologies.

Economise on the air conditioning, limit use of the laundry facilities, do not waste water, if it is safe drink tap water, buy locally produced food etc, from local establishments and avoid the purchase of imported goods.
